Businesses and employees with a demonstrated passion for improving workplace health and safety are encouraged to enter the 2015 WorkSafe Victoria Awards.
The prestigious awards, now in their 27th year, were officially launched on Tuesday by Minister for Finance, Robin Scott at Rapid Test Systems in Bentleigh. RTS was a finalist in the 2014 awards.
“We’re supporting the WorkSafe Awards, which encourage businesses and employees to lead by example in health and safety and in returning to the workplace,” Mr Scott said.
WorkSafe Acting Chief Executive, Clare Amies, said the awards were an important event in the WorkSafe calendar.
“Each year these awards uncover inspiring stories about individuals and businesses committed to keeping their workplaces safe, and helping injured workers get back to work as soon as it is safe to do so,” Ms Amies said.
“It is people and organisations such as these that help make Victoria the safest state in which to work. And they may not know it, but their stories are an inspiration to others.
“So we encourage any business or employee with a great health and safety story to tell to consider entering the awards. Their ideas and passion deserve to be recognised.”
There are nine award categories for 2015, all recognising outstanding contribution to workplace health and safety and return to work.
New to the awards this year is the OHS Achievement award category, which acknowledges an individual, group or organisation for contributing to significant improvements to occupational health and safety within a workplace, industry or the wider community.
The categories are:
- Best solution to a specific workplace health and safety issue
- Excellence in health and safety management
- Health and safety representative of the year
- Health and safety invention of the year
- Commitment to workplace health and wellbeing
- OHS Achievement
- Employer excellence in return to work
- Return to Work Coordinator excellence
- Worker return to work achievement
