Tractors claim two lives in tragic afternoon

WorkSafe Victoria is investigating the death of a self-employed diesel mechanic on his property in Edenhope on Sunday afternoon.

It’s believed the 49-year-old man was performing maintenance work on a tractor at his Sullivan Road business around 4.45pm, when the tractor rolled forward. The man was crushed between the front wheel and a shed wall of his workshop.

WorkSafe is also making inquiries into the death of a man on a hobby farm in Ventnor earlier on Sunday afternoon.

WorkSafe believes a 65-year-old man was using his tractor to feed cattle hay bales shortly after 1.30pm when he parked it on sloped terrain to unload a hay bale.

It’s believed the tractor rolled forward over the man, crushing him.

The man died at the scene.

WorkSafe is assisting Victoria Police with its investigation and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
