Farmer dies in tractor incident near Mansfield

A farmer has died in an incident involving a tractor on a farm at Barjarg, near Mansfield yesterday.

The 56-year-old man was working alone about 3pm when the incident took place.

He phoned a friend seeking help and his friend arrived and administered first aid while waiting for emergency services.

Paramedics arrived but the farmer died at the scene. The tractor, which had a hay feeder trailer attached, was found in a dam about 130 metres away.

WorkSafe is investigating the incident.

The fatality brings the number of confirmed workplace deaths this year to 13, compared to 16 at the same time last year. This is the seventh fatality to occur on a Victorian farm this year.
